Presence

Presence describes the current ability and willingness of a user to communicate. With innovaphone , the presence state of a user is derived from two factors, the state configured at the PBX (willingness) and if the user is in a phone conversation or not(ability).

The PBX is the presence server and will store all presence information on its registered clients. The phones are sending their state changes to the server and are informed by it about of state changes of other users.

The presence mechanism was implemented for the SIP protocol as defined by the SIMPLE standard. Additionally innovaphone developed a proprietary H.450 protocol extension, in order to transport presence information via H.323.
